{"id":3277,"date":"2023-06-22T18:22:38","date_gmt":"2023-06-22T16:22:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dhcab.com\/?p=3277"},"modified":"2023-06-22T18:22:38","modified_gmt":"2023-06-22T16:22:38","slug":"fed-powell-sees-stablecoins-as-money","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dhcab.com\/?p=3277","title":{"rendered":"Fed Powell Sees \u201cStablecoins as Money\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"postie-post\">\n<div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Payment Stablecoins in the US Are a Form of Money<\/p>\n<p>Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell has said that payment stablecoins in the US are a form of money and that the central bank should play a robust role in their regulation.<br \/>Powell&#8217;s comments, at the House of Representatives Financial Services Committee\u2019s semi-annual hearing, came in response to U.S. representative Maxine Waters on a proposed stablecoin bill from the Republicans, which would create 58 different licenses with federal regulatory approval over only two of them.<br \/>Powell responded:<br \/>\u201cWe do see payment stablecoins as a form of money, [\u2026] and we believe that it would be appropriate to have quite a robust federal role in what happens in stablecoin going forward.\u201d<br \/>Powell\u2019s position differs from that of Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Gary Gensler, who has said that stablecoins may require registration and regulation and that all cryptocurrencies except Bitcoin are securities.
