{"id":2966,"date":"2023-06-05T12:24:03","date_gmt":"2023-06-05T10:24:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dhcab.com\/?p=2966"},"modified":"2023-06-05T12:24:03","modified_gmt":"2023-06-05T10:24:03","slug":"russia-may-be-blacklisted-by-fatf-global-bank-transfers-to-be-nearly-impossible","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dhcab.com\/?p=2966","title":{"rendered":"Russia may be blacklisted by FATF, global bank transfers to be nearly impossible"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"postie-post\">\n<div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Russia is concerned that the world&#8217;s main anti-money laundering organization, FATF, could blacklist it following its June 19-23 plenary meeting. <\/p>\n<p>That would mean that any international payments for Russia would be almost impossible, since revising Russia&#8217;s status would entail enhanced scrutiny of transactions.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, some foreign banks in this case would also refuse to work with Russia, as they would risk being hit by penalties. <\/p>\n<p>This would affect not only businesses, but also those Russians who, for instance, need to pay for medical treatment or study abroad.<\/p>\n<p>FATF blacklisting, as Kiev desperately requests, would put Russia on a par with North Korea, Iran, and Myanmar. These nations have been isolated for decades and it is nearly impossible to conduct financial transactions with them. <\/p>\n<p>Yet India and China, as members of FATF, are not likely to support blacklisting Russia, one of their main international partners.<\/p>\n<p>Experts suggest Russia is likely to be added to the softer &#8220;greylist&#8221; of &#8220;Jurisdictions under Enhanced Monitoring.&#8221; FATF grey list currently comprises 23 countries, including T\u00fcrkiye, the UAE, South Africa, Albania, Yemen, and Jordan.<\/p>\n<p>In this case, banks would still scrutinize transactions with Russia, which is already happening in practice.
